Lake Powell 7/22-28/07

We camped up Last Chance Canyon with Mom and Dad Thomas, Erin and Chelsea, The Hammonds and Josh and Joe Cloward. The spot was picture perfect! It was tucked back into a cove where only the houseboat and the ski boat would fit. The air was hot and the water was warm.

JT and Chaz wakeboarded by themselves. They did great! Luke and Brody also tried to wakeboard. They gave it a great try. Everyone surfed including a 7 month pregnant Tara.

We made a Rainbow Bridge trip this time. That is such a cool monument. Standing in the midst of it is an awe inspiring sight. I can see why it is a sacred site for the Navajo Indians. On the way back to camp we stopped at Dangling Rope Marina. Mark and his family had built the stairs leading up the employee housing. That was pretty cool seeing their work. The ice cream at Dangling Rope is the best in the world! Well worth the stop. Lunch on the way back to camp was in beautiful, shady amphitheater. Nice and cool after being in the hot sun.

Brody loved going down the slide over and over. One evening I came back to the houseboat and Brody had a towel over his eye. He had slipped going down slide and cut his skin above his eye. We decided to run to Dangling Rope to see if they could stitch it up, but they had no one that could do it. By that time it was too late to make it back to Wahweap. We took Brody back to the houseboat and cleaned the cut. We were able to super glue it and Erin drew a sweet pirate on his band aid. We tried to keep him out of the water, but that is easier said than done. He kept crying that he wanted to wakeboard. My 3 year old wanted to wakeboard and I couldn't let him!

We made a run back to Wahweap the next day to pick up the Hammonds. They met us at the dock and we made our way back to camp as smoothly as possible for Tara.

After cleaning up on Saturday night we started a new tradition. We had dinner at Bene's Pizzeria at the top of the ramp. That was a good way to start the drive home. We decided to take Brody to Page to the hospital to have a doctor check his cut. Everyone else started for home. After a while at the hospital the doctor said that we had done a good job and he was fine. We started home in the dark at that point. We were gassing up in Panguitch when I got a call from Mark. Apparently he had put unleaded fuel in his diesel truck in Panguitch. The truck made it almost all the way up the canyon on Highway 20. Erin, Josh and Joe were still with the truck while he and Carolyn were with Jeff and Tara in Beaver. We were trying to find a tow truck late on a Saturday night. I couldn't find one in Panguitch, but Mark found one in Beaver. We pressed on and found Erin, Josh and Joe waiting in the dark with the truck. We picked them up and met up with everyone in Beaver. It only took the shop in Beaver about 3 days to fix the truck. Mark was able to catch a ride with the Washburn's the next week to pick it up.

One evening we found ourselves in the middle of a rain storm. If you have never experienced one, they are amazing. The water coming off the cliffs makes such cool waterfalls. Erin and Chelsea went for a swim under it.
