We took the houseboat out of the slip for the first time this year with Mom, Dad and Cass, Dustin and Jen and Stacia, and Cody and Heather. We ended camping in Kane Wash which was right behind Cookie Jar. We were able to take the houseboat through the Castle Rock Cut for the first time. What a difference that short cut is. Not just for time, but also the fuel savings. We made our way into the canyon and found what looked to be a great beach. It just had a few tamaracks on it. When we got in and started to anchor, we found the beach to be full of stickers. We learned that when the lake is rising to levels not seen for 5-10 years the beaches are hard to come by because they are all over grown. The houseboat next to us was starting to pack up as we were unpacking. As they left we took their spot and ended up having an awesome campsite with sandstone to beach on, shade and privacy. Anchoring on sandstone sure helped the boat stay clean. It's just a little difficult to find stuff to tie off to.
The weather was hot. It was typical June. The water was warm and refreshing. It's nice to be able to just soak in the water.
We were able to get everyone out doing stuff. Trisha was pregnant and not able to do stuff behind the boat, but enjoyed playing in the water. The kids loved watching the water rise and covering the island that surrounded the campsite. When you hear people say the lake is rising 6" a day, you think it's not that much. When you consider that a 6" rise is measured vertically, the amount of water is astonishing. We were losing feet of beach everyday.
