Lake Takes: Lake Powell 6/4-9/07

We took our first real trip in Dock Potato in to Warm Creek Bay with my mom and dad, The Munro's, Cassity, Dustin and Jen and Erin and Josh. The trip started off kind of rocky. We were grounded in the slips due to extreme high winds. It was crazy sitting in the boat listening to the radio and all the people talking about their experiences. The weather was cold for June. Our weekend in May was much warmer. The drive down was an eventful one. We drove down with Necia and Derrick. They were driving Grandma's Cadillac. Around Nephi they started having transmission overheating problems. To make a long story short, it ended up taking 10 hours to drive to Wahweap.

The food was great. Necia and Derrick made a roast in the dutch oven. I say you can't go wrong with dutch oven. Dustin and Jen introduced us to baggie omelets for breakfast. Food always tastes great at the lake. I don't know if it really is that good or if I'm just that hungry.

We had a lot of firsts on the trip. Chaz drove Dock Potato, JT drove the Grasshopper by himself, Derrick and Cassity wakeboarded, Brody surfed with Erin and loved the slide. We were camping on the backside of the Castle Rock Cut (it wasn't open then). There was an awesome island in the middle of the bay. Erin decided she wanted to swim out to it. Trisha made her wear an orange flag as she swam. It was a sight. We also took a projector down and enjoyed movies under the stars on the top deck. That has become a favorite tradition.

We had happened to camp right next to Liquid Force's Brostock event. It is one of the premier wakeboarding events in the country. Some of the world's best wakeboarders were there. Just being able to watch them for a weekend was incredible!! The videos and pictures don't capture how good those guys are. They put on quite a show.

The drive home was uneventful. The Cadillac drove much better in the cool night time air. The one issue was Josh getting a ticket between Panguitch and the Highway 20 turn off. Be ye warned!!
